The Gait Analysis Session
The Runner's Profile is an in-depth, individualized, one-hour video gait
analysis and consultation. The session is comprised of
the following elements: Capture
Participants
are videotaped while standing, walking, and running on a motorized
treadmill. A variety of camera angles are used to capture
the static and dynamic function of the lower extremity. Analysis
With
the aid of slow motion and frame-by-frame video playback, the alignment
and function of the lower extremity is evaluated. Key factors
which increase the strain on the musculoskeletal tissues are identified
(e.g. excessive pronation, knocked-knee postures, increased leg
rotation, improper toe-off angles, etc...). Footwear and orthotic
devices are also evaluated for signs of wear and suitability to your
individual lower limb biomechanics. Consultation
After
all of the information is collected, we sit down with you to discuss our
findings. Critical elements of your running gait and their
implications to injury are explained. Recommendations for the
prevention and management of running injuries are also discussed (e.g.
footwear selection, custom orthotics, stretching / strengthening,
etc...).
